Now and Then

Here are some changes that have been made in China from 1978 to 2011.
First of all their economy has increased more than any country in the world. They have an 68-fold increase in money compared to 1978. Most of the profit comes from increased export.

The Education used to be free, now it is hard for many families to have their children go to school. But even though you need money to go to school, the number of people that go to college has exploded in the later decades. If in 1987 only 9 people graduated from a university with a post graduate degree that number would be 311,000 in 2007.

The population in 1978 was 963 million people, the worlds largest back then, now it's 1.32 billion, yes.. still the worlds largest.

More than 90% of China underground water are polluted.

Average salary for a worker is 40 times as much these days compared to 1978.

  1. The changes that I have just been informed of are harsh. I actually wasn't aware of such things going on in China. We look forward to learning more.
